Who are the people behind Genealogy Unlimited? What is its history?
Genealogy Unlimited is part of Interlink Bookshop and Genealogical Services, which is owned and operated by Dave and Dixie Obee. Interlink was founded by Sherry Irvine in 1988 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Interlink is probably the oldest genealogy retailers in Canada -- but our roots go even deeper than that, thanks to Genealogy Unlimited. It was founded in Illinois in 1974 by Carol Mehr Schiffman and Don Schiffman. They later moved the business to Orem, Utah. Genealogy Unlimited became part of the Interlink family in March 2000.
Why is the website known as Genealogy Unlimited and not Interlink Bookshop?
We ran two websites for almost nine years, one under each title. The Genealogy Unlimited side has traditionally drawn more traffic, and scores higher in web rankings. It made sense -- for us and for our customers -- to bring them together as one site, and the higher popularity of Genealogy Unlimited made it an easy choice.
I am in the United States. You're in Canada. How do I pay?
The easiest way is to use Mastercard or Visa -- your bank will convert the Canadian amount into U.S. currency for you. You can also pay by check -- just let us know what you'd like to order, and we'll provide the total. The check should be made payable to Interlink Bookshop.
Is it difficult or costly to have books or maps mailed to the United States from Canada?
No. They are printed materials, so they should glide through U.S. customs without any delay.
What is the cost of delivery?
Please go to our ordering page for the full information.
How long should it take my order to arrive?
That depends on where you are, and whether the item you have ordered is in stock. We keep on hand the vast majority of what we sell -- the major exceptions are some large map series that have thousands of maps. In those cases, we bring them in from our supplier as they are ordered. We indicate these items on our web site.
We send orders as soon as we possibly can. Delivery time varies. In Canada or the United States, it will generally be about a week after they go in the mail, but that may stretch to two weeks in some cases.
I need a map but I'm not sure what I should get. Do you have any advice?
Certainly -- we've got a page devoted to that. Go to Dave Obee's summary about using maps.
Could Genealogy Unlimited keep me advised of new releases and sales?
Yes. Please send us an email and we will add you to our list.
Does Genealogy Unlimited provide gift certificates?
Certainly -- simply let us know the amount, and the name of the recipient, and we will print one for you.
We would like to see a Genealogy Unlimited display at our conference. How far from home do you travel?
Well, we've been to eight states and five provinces -- and we will consider a request from anywhere in North America if we can work it into our schedule.
Is it possible put a link to Genealogy Unlimited on my web page?
Sure! We would appreciate it. Just copy and paste the following html code into your own web page:
